Unbox & Inspect
Begin by carefully unboxing your Trezor device. Inside the package, you should find the hardware wallet, a USB connecting cable, and a recovery seed card. Crucially, inspect the tamper-evident hologram seal on the USB port. If this seal appears broken, removed, or tampered with in any way, do not use the device and contact support immediately. This physical security check is your first line of defense.
Install Trezor Suite
Navigate to the official Trezor website to download the Trezor Suite desktop application. This software is the interface you will use to manage your assets. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, Trezor Suite provides a secure environment isolated from browser-based threats. Always verify you are on the correct domain (trezor.io) before downloading to avoid phishing attempts.
Initialize Device
Connect your Trezor to your computer using the provided USB cable. Launch Trezor Suite and follow the on-screen prompts. Your device will power up and display the Trezor logo. The Suite will detect the device and guide you through the initialization process. You can choose to create a new wallet or recover an existing one if you are migrating from another device.
Create PIN & Seed
This is the most critical step. First, set a strong PIN code to protect your device from unauthorized physical access. Next, the device will generate your Recovery Seed—a sequence of 12 to 24 words. Write these words down on the provided card in the exact order shown. Never store this seed digitally (no photos, no cloud storage). This seed is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
Update Firmware
Trezor regularly releases firmware updates to patch vulnerabilities and add new features. During setup, Trezor Suite will check if your device is running the latest firmware. If an update is available, confirm the installation on your device's screen. Keeping your firmware up-to-date is essential for maintaining the highest level of security for your crypto assets.
Add Assets
Once initialized, your wallet is ready. In Trezor Suite, you can enable various cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and over 1000 others. Click on 'Assets' to add the coins you wish to manage.
